One of the funnier vintage photo’s Ive come across over the years is this “play bill” or advertisement. It has to do with a comedian who converted an iron bed into a two wheel bike. From his dress, “bowler hat” and the particular straight line metal bed he used, I’d say this photo was from about the 1890’s.
Iron beds have always been popular props for the entertainment industry over the years. I’ve had numerous ones that were used in Broadway plays , feature films and many beds that have a reoccurring part in TV series.
When my children were younger and we took them to feature movies, they were always asking if the bed in a particular movie was one we may have sold the producers for the film. Most of the time the bed used, was one we had provided them with. With beds in movies like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Silverado, and TV series like Seinfeld, Eight is Enough, and dozens more, we have been very fortunate to have been in the entertainment capital of the world. So providing the major studios with authentic old antique iron beds is an easy thing for us.
What better way to make a period movie or TV show more authentic that with the use of an authentic old metal bed.
