Most people that aren’t associated with the field of design and decorating have a preconceived notion that iron beds are suppose to be painted white. No matter what the color of the wall they’re going against. The problem with this school of thought is that if your wall is white and your bed is also white……where are you going to get the definition between the two to be able to appreciate either the bed or the wall. The only time a bed should be painted white is if the wall has a pastel color or some type of wall treatment like wall paper. Otherwise the metal bed that goes against a white wall has an open pallet of colors it can be painted.
Be creative………choose an accent color that’s in the room and paint the castings on the bed the same color. Use an umber water base acrylic as a wash to age whatever paint job you do.
In this photo you can see the advantage of contrast by using antique iron beds that are painted black against an otherwise white wall. Now the bed can be appreciated, as can the the rest of the items in the room.
