Not long ago I was asked to help stage a house, with one of our beautiful antique iron beds, in the prestigious Malibu Colony on Malibu beach.
They asked if I could come up with a bed that had a bit of a “WOW” factor. A bed that would be representative of the waves and beautiful light beach front that was their back yard, was what they had been looking for.
All the antique iron beds I selected, had “A-symmetric ” scrolled brass, in the shape of a “wave”. They asked that any bed I decided on have a “off-white” finish with subtle gold on the castings to pick up on the other colors in the master bedroom.
I was given quite a bit of artistic license in the selection of this bed and the finish that we did. The one thing they requested was that we convert whatever iron bed I decided on, to a king size.
The attached photo is of the bed in it’s original double size and then the same one after it was converted to a king size .
Less than a month after we finished and installed the converted bed……the house sold. While the house was up for sale I sold the bed we did for them, to another client, with the understanding I wouldn’t be able to deliver it until our staging contract was over. Funny enough…….the people that bought the house, also wanted to buy the bed. I assured them I could sell them another metal bed they could select from my inventory. Disappointed at first , at not being able to buy the bed we had originally done for the house, they selected an equally beautiful bed that we also converted to king size for them.
All in all, it was a good staging.
