Hearts were a very popular motif in the design of iron beds. Although in todays economy, such an extravagance at Valentines Day , as the purchase of an iron bed with a “heart” integrated into it’s design, wouldn’t be given a second thought. Back in the 1800’s, iron beds were considered to be much more utilitarian and the hear shape was simply the symbol of love and companionship. I’ve had numerous different shapes and designs that incorporated the heart into their iron beds. I’ve posted two of them here and will continue to add to these photo’s as i come across them in our old digital albums. Happy Valentines Day………….
