Most people have an image of large manufacturing companies that employed dozens, even hundreds of men, that produced iron beds back in the 1800’s.
As you may have read in my 2nd Blog entitled Origins of Cathouse Antique Iron Beds, the first iron beds I ever had, came in to my possession from a couple of farmers up in Pennsylvania.
It was a strange thing that some designers of iron beds did back in the early 1800’s when selecting a certain theme for their iron beds.
So you have a king size mattress and you’ve always wanted an antique iron bed.
Here is an iron bed I converted to a “Crown Canopy” for a client who happens to be opening a new B&B right in the heart of the “French Quarter” in New Orleans.
I had started selling the Ralph Lauren Co iron beds for their store displays and ad campaigns back in 1987.
For many years people that went out and bought antique iron beds, felt as though they should completely refinish them so they looked brand new.
