Over the years I’ve sold iron beds to a countless number of professional athletes. Los Angeles Laker’s, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, etc etc. Professional golfers, boxers and professional hockey players.
But I must say, one of my favorite customers that got a number beds from me was Jennifer & Joe Montana. Jennifer first came into the store, looking for a bed for her and Joe, when Joe was still with the 49ers in San Francisco. They bought two beautiful beds from me then, and then a couple more when Joe was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs and they had a home in Kansas.
I always liked how Joe deferred to Jennifer on design decisions he knew she was more adept at. Some men have a way of wanting to “flex” their opinions and control over the selection of a bed and it’s finish. Joe was certainly secure enough not to have to “flex” any such control.
Jennifer was a very nice person to deal with and quite good in the selection process of the beds they got from me and asking the appropriate questions that a first time buyer of antique iron beds should be asking.
I ended up selling a number of iron beds to other people because of the ones Jenn and Joe had gotten from me. Joe’s mother in law bought one from us, as did a couple of other players on his team. One of those sales had a rather funny story to it that I put in my next blog about the Bono Sand Finish.
So thank you to Joe & Jennifer for your kind referrals over the years. They have been very much appreciated. I hope the beds that we’ve sold your friends have made them as happy as the ones you’ve gotten from us over that time.
